Mason Greenwood training with Man Utd team-mate as club still deciding on future

Mason Greenwood has been pictured training with a Manchester United team-mate after the club set a deadline for their internal investigation

Mason Greenwood has been spotted training with Manchester United team-mate Anthony Elanga.

The forward hasn’t played for the club since his suspension in January of 2022 after being charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

Police said in a statement in February that Greenwood “no longer faces criminal proceedings” and the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case.

United’s own investigation has continued since that update and the 21-year-old was seen training alone before new snaps emerged.

Greenwood, meanwhile, has been linked with moves away from United with his contract running until the summer of 2025.

One of the clubs linked with a move for the England international was Jose Mourinho’s Roma, thanks in part to his past relationship with the boss.

The Mirror previously report that United chief executive Richard Arnold has led discussions, with a decision to be made before the new season starts in August.

It was added that he has sought opinions from football director John Murtough, owners the Glazer family and manager Erik ten Hag.

United’s follow-up statement earlier this year said: “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped. The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps.

“We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”

A total of 155 days have passed since that statement and the club have publicly provided no further update.
