Chris BruntChris Brunt must deal with “a shattered dream” after learning he will miss Euro 2016 with a serious knee injury.

The West Brom left-back and Northern Ireland international was carried off in Saturday’s win over Crystal Palace and is set to miss the rest of the season.

Results of scans this week are poised to confirm the star has injured his cruciate knee ligament — as revealed by Mirror Sport on Tuesday.

It is a devastating diagnosis for experienced Northern Ireland international Brunt, who has 54 caps and is a regular in Michael O’Neill’s side.

“I think that coin incident is not on his mind at all when you have an injury like that. You feel for him as a team-mate and as a friend.

“I have been playing with him for eight years. It is the first summer really when he was looking forward to something else other than a vacation.

“I just hope he gets back fit and maybe he is there for the next championship [the 2018 World Cup in Russia]. Hopefully there is more to come from him.”

Albion keeper Ben Foster only recently returned to the Baggies’ starting line-up in January, at the expense of deputy Boaz Myhill, after knee surgery.

England shot-stopper Foster was on fine form in their 2-2 draw at Leicester where he made a string of late saves.

Centre-back Olsson added: “You can’t really see he has been out for eight months. It is a joy to play in front of him.”
