BREAKING NEWS: medical pencilled in for Wednesday as Leeds close in on first summer signing

Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon that Leeds United are close to completing the signing of Aberdeen teenager Lewis Pirie – with a medical pencilled in for Wednesday, ahead of a three-year deal.

Leeds are yet to make any additions to the squad this summer. The club have appointed Daniel Farke and while they are able to announce signings, it could be that we are waiting for the EFL to finally ratify a takeover before doing so.

Leeds wanted to wait for that before appointing Farke, but chose to get on with things last week. It meant they had to request permission from Andrea Radrizzani, who technically, remains chairman and the major Leeds shareholder.

So, Leeds might be waiting for ratification before signings. The club have waved goodbye to a number of players, the likes of Brenden Aaronson, Robin Koch and Diego Llorente. Marc Roca is expected to join Real Betis very soon.

But now, it is claimed Leeds are close to landing Pirie. The Record said last week that 16-year-old Pirie – who scored 51 goals for club and country last season – was offered new terms at Aberdeen. But Romano has an update.

So, the first one through the door is going to be Pirie. Obviously, not an addition for the senior side – but one for the newly-promoted Under-21 side. The reserves gained an instant return to the top flight of Premier League 2 football.

It is likely he will be aiming to become a key part of that, given he is still easily young enough to play for our Under-18 side. Medical tomorrow, before a £200k move until the summer of 2026. Hopefully, the floodgates have opened.
