The72’s writers make their prediction for Middlesbrough against Cardiff City ahead of Tuesday night’s Championship fixture.

Middlesbrough enters their midweek match against Cardiff City on the heels of two straight victories. Boro defeated Watford away from home at the weekend after gaining their first Championship victory of the season against Southampton.

As a result, Michael Carrick’s team has risen from the relegation zone to 21st place in the table. They’ll be determined to keep pushing up the standings now in order to attain the heights many predicted for them before the season began.

Boro, on the other hand, will face Cardiff City at home.

The Bluebirds have now won five of their previous six games, including four consecutive victories. Erol Bulut’s men are sixth after a 2-0 win over Rotherham United, thanks to goals from Kion Etete and Perry Ng.

Here are some of our writers’ predictions for the game…

Ray, James
“After winning their last two games, Middlesbrough will be determined to put together a run similar to the one that took them all the way to the play-offs last season after a poor start.” They’re in for a tough game here, though, and it could be a minor setback.

“Cardiff demonstrated at the weekend that they can perform without star man Aaron Ramsey, albeit against a struggling Rotherham side.”

“A win here for Boro would be fantastic, but in this form, it’s difficult to bet against Cardiff.” I’ll be rooting for the visitors to bring all three points back to South Wales.”

Prediction for Middlesbrough vs. Cardiff City:

“Middlesbrough’s panic is almost over.” They’re gradually getting back to their best, but there’s still a long way to go, and Boro face a difficult game against Cardiff.

“This season, the Bluebirds have been pleasantly surprise. They’re shown a renewed ability and optimism under Bulut, whose team could yet finish in the top six.

“Both go into this one on the back of some decent, recent form, so I’ll predicted a draw in this one.”
