On Tuesday, the former attacker was named manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle. The Highlanders sit bottom of the Championship with one point from six games, and Ferguson isn’t wasting any time in trying to turn things around.
Loan players can be signed by Championship, League 1 and League 2 clubs between September and February (SPFL Rules). Ferguson appears to be fully aware of this.
“We can get them out the Scottish Prem can’t we?,” he stated to STV. “We can get some out-of-contract boys.”
“I’ve already contacted one or two Scottish managers.” I spoke with Brendan this morning, so perhaps he’ll be able to assist me.
“We’ll see if we can identify some players and we’ll take it from there.”
Based on such comments, it appears that a Celtic player will be loaned to Inverness. There is also an obvious candidate.
It was interesting to see a young Daniel Kelly in the official 2023/24 Celtic team portrait issued on Tuesday. (Celtic)
He and Rocco Vata were the only B team players included, and Vata is likely to be regarded a first-team possibility these days. Kelly’s presence may not represent much, but it does indicate that he is regarded as a first-team player at the club.
With that image and Ferguson’s comments, it’s simple to conclude that a loan transfer to Inverness would be good to the 17-year-old midfielder.
He’d get out there and play actual first-team football in a more demanding league than the Lowland League. We’d learn more about him ahead of a possible future at Celtic.
It’s one to keep an eye on.
