With a professional 2-1 home victory over Grimsby on Saturday, Town made it nine unbeaten starts to the 23/24 season.

Dan Kemp’s spectacular volley started the scoring, and Jake Cain doubled the lead in the second half with an impressive lobbed finish.

Grimsby’s Donovan Wilson scored a consolation goal midway through the second half, but Town held tight to take the three points in SN1.

The meeting at the County Ground was always going to be a tough one, with the high-flying hosts remaining unbeaten in the league this season – a club record. After 26 minutes, Charlie Austin chipped the ball through for Dan Kemp, who managed to fire into the bottom right-hand corner despite the ball bouncing up.

Harry Clifton nearly levelled the scores when Abo Eisa found him seven yards from goal, but Swindon custodian Murphy Mahoney made the save.

Mahoney had to be at his best once more to keep Swindon ahead when Tariq Uwakwe mishandled a ball and Remeao Hutton mishit a clearance, allowing Danny Rose to shoot from inside the six-yard box, which Mahoney saved after flinging himself across his line.

Kemp set up Swindon’s second goal in the 64th minute, playing a through pass into Jake Cain, who finished with a first-time effort over goalie Jake Eastwood.

Donovan Wilson had an immediate impact off the bench for the Mariners, turning Frazer Blake-Tracy before finishing beautifully into the near post to pull a goal back 20 minutes from time, but Swindon held on for the win.

Town will return to action against Barrow at Blundell Park on Tuesday evening, hoping to get back on track.
