Sam Hutchinson has revealed that he ‘never felt right’ following his first calf injury last season which limited him to only 12 games.
The hugely experienced midfielder has been a constant for Ruben Selles during the early stages of the League One season, lending grit to a young side.
Hutchinson, a fan favourite at Sheffield Wednesday, had previously retired from the game while with Chelsea due to a persistent knee injury, but the 34-year-old fought back and went on to have a successful Football League career.
Struggling with niggly injuries last year, the Windsor-born tough-tackler admits he now looks after himself better, and that former Royals boss Paul Ince was a ‘accident waiting to happen.’ “I am managing myself better with the team and the physios. Last year was a nightmare with injuries, I was chasing my tail from the first calf injury, and I was never right,” he said. “Me and Paul Ince were probably an accident waiting to happen because we both had the same mentality. He said jump and I would say how high? I loved him for it, and I respected him, but it was probably the worst thing that we could both have had because I would never say no to him.”
