On Saturday, Crewe Alexandra will play Wrexham in a competitive match for the first time in two decades.

Lee Bell’s team will try to improve on their recent success at the Racecourse, which includes victories over Forest Green Rovers and Colchester United, as well as a draw with Wimbledon.

The Opponents

Wrexham have won three of their past five games and are seventh in League Two, just behind the Alex.

They were thrashed 5-0 by Stockport County last time out and will be looking to get back on track.

Mr. Gaffer

Vastly-experienced Phil Parkinson was named manager of Wrexham in the summer of 2021. Last season, he led the club to promotion as they surpassed 100 points in the National League.

Parkinson has previously managed Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers, and Bradford City during his distinguished career.

“It’s a derby game,” says Ryan Dicker, Crew Assistant Manager. We’re just focusing on what needs to be done and preparing as we would for any game. I expect goals in the game, and they are quite strong at home.”

Crewe Alexandra and Wrexham have met 122 times, with each team winning 42 times.

The last time the teams met was in 2003, when Crewe won 2-0 in the EFL Cup thanks to goals from Dean Ashton and Steve Jones.

Officials in charge of the game

Lee Swabey will officiate the game on Saturday. Jacob Lehane and Paul Stonier will be the linemen. Kevin Morris will be the fourth official.
