Souttar’s first appearance of the season – and his first in Maresca’s matchday squad – helped keep Liverpool at bay until Szoboszlai’s searing Steven Gerrard tribute act in the second half.

“Absolutely, Harry Souttar was very good,” Maresca commented at the end of the game. “He’s one of our players. He is one of the team’s members. He might certainly be an option in the future.”Harry Souttar, the younger brother of Rangers centre-back John Souttar, told Leicestershire Live recently that, after a summer of intense speculation, his sole focus was on forcing his way back into Maresca’s plans and rediscovering the form that prompted the Foxes to invest £15 million in him back in January.

Souttar is battling Enzo Maresca.

“It’s been tough,” murmured Souttar. “I believe there was a lot of talk in the press about going on loan.

“I’m a Leicester City player.” I’m going to do everything I can to get back into the squad. Obviously, the decision is made by the manager. So all I can do is work hard and show him that I can return to the squad.”
