According to reports, Brighton have emerged as prospective suitors for Nottingham Forest-linked striker Marcos Leonardo.
According to previous rumors, Roma of Italy’s Serie A had agreed on personal terms with the Brazilian. However, a transfer never happened, and he is still a Santos player.Forest and Aston Villa have also expressed an interest, but no formal contact is said to have been made. According to Globo, Leonardo is under contract through 2026 and has a €100 million release clause.According to Premier League Brasil, Brighton are interested in signing the Brazilian. The Seagulls are believed to be “popular as a destination” because of how they “treat young players” and the number of South American players in the club.
The report has also claimed that Brentford have shown interest in signing the striker more than once. It adds though that “negotiations did not progress.”
Leonardo is highly regarded in Brazil, having come through Santos’ academy before making his senior debut at the age of 17. He has scored nine goals in 18 league games this season with his performances in Brazil inevitably leading to comparisons with Santos legends Pele and Neymar.
