The Daily Mail journalist, taking to his personal Twitter account (19 September) shared that the uncapped England centre-back is in line for a new deal at Villa Park and mooted a possible international call-up in the near future.

Since joining Villa from Brentford in 2019, Konsa has made a total of 145 appearances and has been a mainstay in the side despite playing under three different managers during his four years at the club, and has impressed especially in Tyrone Mings’ injury absence

Collomosse tweeted: “Ezri Konsa in line for a new Aston Villa contract after continuing his impressive progress under Unai Emery.

“Konsa has been a mainstay under all managers at Villa.

“England call can’t be far away, surely?

The 25-year-old has started all seven of the club’s games in all competitions so far this season, but appears to be no closer to breaking into Gareth Southgate’s England squad after Lewis Dunk, Marc Guehi and Levi Colwill were all called up for the September internationals.

However, yet another international setback certainly won’t derail Konsa who has always stepped up and showed his class so soon after being snubbed for England, such is his incredible mentality and character

Konsa has become such a reliable commodity in the Aston Villa team under Emery and is arguably now one of the first names on the team sheet.

Konsa’s rock-solid partnership with the England international was the foundation at which Aston Villa underwent their stunning upward trajectory last term, recording an impressive eleven clean sheets along the way.

In fact, Konsa’s seasonal stats last term should have come under the microscope in Southgate’s behind-the-scenes defensive analysis, with the former Brentford man only being dribbled past 0.2 times per game, recording 1.1 tackles per game, 3.0 clearances, winning 72% of his total duels, 60% of his aerial duels and a whopping 80% of his ground duels [SofaScore].

He’s certainly started this new season in a similar fashion and is expected to take up a regular leadership role in the Aston Villa defence with Mings now a long-term injury absentee.

Konsa’s incredible class, mentality and amazing resistance to take every England international setback and put it behind him to perform consistently makes him arguably one of the best centre-backs in the country.

It’s no wonder Villa are desperate to tie him down to a new deal. It is well deserved.Ezri Konsa explains what Unai Emery really wants from Aston Villa as Tyrone Mings wish granted - Birmingham Live
