Ben Davies backs Michael Beale’s sacking at Rangers after his performance against St Johnstone
Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson also reported on the newspaper’s website on 6 September that Bennett “will resist calls” to get rid of the under-fire Gers boss “despite a wave of anger”. fans” following the 1-0 loss to Celtic on September 3, but Beale will need to “deliver an immediate improvement in results”.
Such reports will not be supported by rumors circulating that Ibrox chiefs have contacted former Chelsea and Brighton manager Graham Potter to replace Beale [The Sun, September 13], in as Birmingham manager John Eustace was also linked with the role [Daily Courier, September 6].
However, Beale and his men put those rumors to rest for the time being with a comfortable and assured 2-0 win over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, and Davies then explained what the players were doing to help save Beale.
“I support the manager,” he told the Scottish Sun [September 17]. “I have 100% confidence in him and we can have a good season this year. There’s a long way to go
He just needs people like me and others to give him strong performances. It’s Rangers, so you have to win every game.
“When you don’t, it’s about pushing yourself, working together and being there for each other.
“If you look too much at what people say, you will eventually fall down the rabbit hole and it will affect you.
“The best way to handle this situation is to block everything and adopt a siege mentality.”
Indeed, Davies is absolutely right. If the Rangers want to alleviate outside pressure, Beale’s key players and leaders will surely have to do their part and lead by example.
The former Liverpool and Preston North End defender certainly stepped up and backed up his claim with a solid and dominant defensive performance against the Saints.
The 28-year-old senior returned to the lineup in fine form and proved to Beale why he needs to be Goldson’s long-term defensive partner for the foreseeable future.
Davies looked certain to leave Ibrox in the summer transfer window, but he and Beale have decided to let him stay and his latest performance proves once again what the team will be missing if he he left.
A no-nonsense display from the former Liverpool centre-back and, like Goldson, barely helped St Johnstone’s attack advance an inch in a comfortable display, winning a total of 12 of 14 duels , completed 85% of his passes after scoring 120 touches, two clearances, one clearance and being dribbled past zero times [SofaScore] in the Man of the Match presentation fight. Whenever the pressure was on Rangers and Beale, they could always count on Davies to make the necessary contribution to ease Ibrox’s concerns, but more importantly, the senior centre-back could have saved the day. gets Beale’s job at the moment.
In other Rangers news, an Ibrox player was given a horrendous ‘3/10’ for his ineffective performance against St Johnstone with player ratings divided.ran
