Celtic duo watch Japan defeat Germany from the bench.

 

Celtic teammates Kyogo and Daizen Maeda were not deployed as substitutes as Japan trounced Germany in a friendly international match.

Even though Germany has no qualifying matches left to play for the Euros next summer, they were embarrassed by Japan this evening in Wolfsburg.

Leroy Sane scored for Germany, but Junya Ito and Ayase Ueda put the visitors ahead 2-1. However, Hajime Moriyasu’s team won thanks to two late goals from Takuma Asano and Ao Tanaka.

Unexpectedly, neither of the Celtic attackers were present. Celtic’s Kyogo scored the game-winning goal in the Glasgow Derby.

Maeda’s work rate is an unexpected absence from the starting XI given that Moriyasu favors him through the center against Rangers last weekend.

Brendan Rodgers will probably have been relieved that two of his primary attackers didn’t on the field given the injury to Liel Abada while on international duty with Israel. The Irishman has dealt with a number of injuries thus far in the season, so he will undoubtedly be anxious to prevent any other problems from occurring while the Celtis are away with their national teams.
