West Ham United are set to announce the appointment of Tim Steidten as their new director of football on Friday, according to journalist Dominik Schneider.

The Hammers had been keen to appoint someone to help with transfers this summer after being left disappointed by the performances of players after splashing £185m last season on new players.

But after an extensive process and talks with several candidates, German Steidten has now been handed the role and is set to start work on July 1st.

This has been a long process with plenty of people tipped to take over as the new director of football, and with the club needing David Moyes’ blessing for whoever they ultimately went with.

Steidten comes with a great reputation having been at Bayer Leverkusen previously, and with this now a done deal West Ham can begin to focus on their own summer business.

Declan Rice’s future is well documented with an exit seemingly inevitable at this point, but there are several other players who could leave and will need to be replaced.

It will be Steidten’s responsibility to ensure that happens adequately and to allow Moyes the time with the new members of his squad in pre-season to ensure a better season next year.

A relegation battle simply cannot be on the cards again and the club will want to compete in Europe once again too, so there is plenty of work to get on with.
