Trevan Sanusi and Divine Mukasa are young players who have drawn interest from a number of Premier League teams, but Newcastle has managed to stave them off.
The two England youth internationals will join our ever-expanding program before to the 2023–24 season, according to information we obtained from an unknown scout currently employed by the EFL.
With Sanusi’s medical taking place this week, a deal for the 16-year-old winger is all but finalized. After excelling in their Under-21s, he was offered a new contract by Birmingham City but declined it. Last season, he came close to making his professional debut for the Blues. After turning 16 in April, had he played, he would have broken Jude Bellingham’s record for being the club’s youngest-ever player
Divine Mukasa
In April, Mukasa—an offensive midfielder who had departed West Ham—joined Ollie Harrison and Sanusi in helping England’s U16 team win the Montaigu tournament after defeating Japan in a shootout.
In an effort to keep Mukasa in East London, the Hammers made a strong push to break their wage system for U18 players. But like Sanusi, the player is drawn to Newcastle by the project there and the chance to compete in the UEFA Youth League this coming season, an enticing benefit in light of our Champions League qualifying.
Both should find a home in Tyneside and rise up the ranks, hopefully. Since Dan Ashworth’s arrival, our investment in the academy has been extremely encouraging, and deals for the Irish duo Kevin Zefi and Romeo Akachukwu are also in the works.
