An expert in finance responds to the Philippe Coutinho transfer news from Aston Villa.

Dr. Daniel Plumley, a specialist in football finance, will be writing an exclusive piece for us and sharing his thoughts on the most important topics at Aston Villa.

According to Dan Plumley, Aston Villa has a decent chance to get rid of Philippe Coutinho and save a lot of money on just his salary.

The financial expert acknowledged that the transfer strategy hasn’t completely worked out for all sides, with the danger being evident at Villa Park.

On September 4, as Coutinho prepared for his medical before a deal to join Al-Duhail was finalised, Ben Jacobs posted video of him in Doha.

“The risk in transfer strategies, this is one that probably hasn’t worked out for Villa,” he exclusively told Villa News.

“It was a really interesting signing at the time, but Villa seem to be going in a different direction now.

He will be paid well, so it makes sense to get him off the payroll. If there is interest and you can drive up the price with a team in Qatar and the money is good enough, it’s also a good opportunity to move him on and save on salaries.

Since joining Villa Park, where he was coached at the time by Steven Gerrard, Coutinho has had a mixed career.

The 31-year-old played for the Villans on a total of 43 occasions and appears to be leaving with only six goals and three assists to his credit in addition to some ongoing injury issues.

This summer, Unai Emery acquired some attacking talent, namely Moussa Diaby and Youri Tielemans, making Coutinho’s eventual leaving door simpler to open.
