Aston Villa are planning to sign a second midfielder and then sell Leander Dendoncker this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Unai Emery doesn’t see the 28-year-old as a key part of his plans at the Midlands club for next season and has given the green light to him leaving.

The Belgium international was a fringe figure last season after joining from Wolves last summer for a fee of around £15million.

Aston Villa have already let Dendoncker know that he is free to find a new club in the off-season.

It comes as the club look to complete a second midfielder signing following the capture of Youri Tielemans on a free transfer when his Leicester City contract expired.

Like Youri Tielemans, who completed a free transfer to Villa last Saturday, the Englishman is proven in the Premier League and capable of slotting straight into their team.

Dendoncker – who can also play as a centre-back – made 26 appearances in all competitions last season but was in the starting XI on just nine occasions.

The 32-cap Belgium international carved out a successful Premier League career prior to joining Aston Villa.

He racked up 159 appearances as a key man for Wolves, notching 12 goals and four assists.

As revealed by Football Insider last week, Napoli star Hirving Lozano has also been shortlisted as a top target by Villa’s recruitment team for this summer and they are lining up a move for him.

The wide forward is regarded as a matchwinner who can make an instant Premier League impact and there are suggestions he could be available for a move this summer.
