Toronto Star’s Doug Smith reported on Sunday that Brissett will not compete in the FIBA World Cup for Canada once he recovers from his illness.
Smith wrote: “Jamal Murray will not be traveling to Germany for three games against Canada before the World Cup, but hopefully he will be ready for matches in Spain and the tournament. “Retired veterans Cory Joseph, as well as Kassius Robertson and Oshae Brissett, who have knee problems.
No further details on the Celtics striker’s injury have been released. But this will be the second World Cup in a row he misses because of a knee problem. Prior to this spike, he hadn’t had any problems since undergoing minor surgery in 2020.
Oshae Brissett shares her excitement about dressing for the Boston Celtics
Brissett’s decision to join the Boston Celtics gives the team much-needed depth on the wing. The Syracuse alumnus spent the last three seasons playing for the Indiana Pacers, where he played a smaller role in the rotation.
Last season he made 65 appearances for Indiana, playing about 16.7 minutes each. He averages 6.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game, and shoots 38.6% from the field and 31.0% from outside the box. The 25-year-old first talked about his new home at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas last month.
“Energy, excitement,” Brissett was quoted as saying when asked what he would add to the Celtics, according to NBC Sports Boston. “Obviously playing at the Garden is different, but they have that with the players. I feel like I could take that in a different way. Come on off the bench, start, whatever the team needs from me, [I’ll bring] that energy and that heart to the team.
Brissett will wear the number 12 shirt for Boston, a shirt last created by “Batman” himself, Grant Williams – who joined the Dallas Mavericks this summer through a deal and signing. Joel Embiid’s landing “makes most sense” – at least according to Sir Charles in Charge’s Michael Saenz – is a nightmare scenario for the Boston Celtics worldwide; that’s the defending Eastern Conference Miami Heat champion.
“The Knicks and Rockets will make sense for Embiid,” Saenz began before saying, “They are two teams that are growing in their respective conferences and there is a common sense that Embiid will help both teams move forward. a big step . proceed to the contest. However, I would say that the team that makes the most objective sense for Embiid, aside from collecting assets, is the only team that probably won’t be interested in him – the Miami Heat.
“With Bam Adebayo being the rising star of the league, I would have a hard time believing they would want to trade Bam (and parts) for Embiid, even if the Heat eventually lost Damian Lillard. However, in a vacuum environment, Embiid will be the perfect choice for Heat. Jimmy Butler is close to Embiid and there’s no doubt the Heat’s organization and structure is exactly what can help expand Embiid’s MVP level of play.
Heat could overtake Boston Celtics in the East on landing Joel Embiid
For now, the Boston Celtics and Heat are evenly matched due to their alternating Eastern Conference championships in the past two knockouts, following of course a six-game win at ECF 2020 in the Lake Buena Vista bubble. Adding Embiid to this mix completely changes the recipe, giving Miami a clear edge.
