According to Sky Sports, the 21-year-old former Academy of Lights player is attracting interest from his former club Sunderland but Championship rivals Middlesbrough have won the race.
Sunderland-born Greenwood can play as a forward and backline but has recently been moved further by Leeds United in midfield.

Greenwood left Sunderland under the group that owns Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven, initially joining Arsenal for a fee of around £500,000.

While the Academy of Light retained its Category 1 status, some interesting young stars were allowed to leave and Madrox’s supervision was under the direction of the duo.

Luca Stephenson, Joe Hugill, Greenwood, Bali Mumba, Francis Okoronkwo and Logan Pye have all passed away. The mass exodus was unpopular with fans and pundits, many of whom believe the club’s academy is headed in the wrong direction.
The duo are Boro’s 10th and 11th signings this summer in a busy transfer window. Central midfielder O’Brien joined Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan. He has a rich history in the Championship, helping Huddersfield reach the 2022 play-off final and win the club’s Player of the Season award.
The summer transfer window ends at 11pm on September 1.
Greenwood arrives under a similar deal with Championship rivals Leeds and can play as an attacking midfielder or forward.

The 21-year-old is already well known in the region as he was born in Sunderland and grew up at the club’s academy in Wearside. Carrick will be hoping the duo can help his side get off to a poor start to the season in the league, picking up just one point from the first four games.
Speaking on Middlesbrough’s website after the signings were announced, Carrick said:
“Lewis has achieved success and we are delighted to have him involved.

“He’s got good experience, he’s at a good age and he brings something different from what we have here.

“His arrival gives us more options and we look forward to working with him.

“Sam is a really talented player. It has two legs and gives us more flexibility.

“We look forward to working with him and Lewis O’Brien and helping them grow as players.”
