Sunderland AFC have reportedly completed a deal to sign talented striker Johnny Kenny, adding another promising attacking option to their squad ahead of the new season.
Kenny, an Irish forward who has been developing at Celtic, spent the second half of the 2025–26 campaign on loan at Bolton Wanderers. During his spell at Bolton, he showed his goalscoring ability and became an important part of the team’s attack.
The young striker enjoyed an impressive run of form toward the end of his loan spell, scoring in several consecutive matches and earning praise for his performances. His time in England gave him valuable experience of the physical and competitive nature of the English game.
Sunderland’s reported decision to bring Kenny to the Stadium of Light would give the club another young attacking player with room to develop. His movement, work rate and ability to find scoring opportunities could provide additional competition among Sunderland’s forwards.
The move would also fit Sunderland’s strategy of building a squad capable of competing at a high level while continuing to develop younger talent. The club are preparing for another demanding campaign, with Premier League football and European competition providing additional challenges.
For Kenny, a move to Sunderland would represent another major step in his developing career. Having already experienced senior football with Celtic and Bolton Wanderers, the striker would now have the opportunity to test himself with a club competing at a higher level.
Sunderland supporters will be hoping Kenny can quickly adapt to his new surroundings and make an impact in front of the passionate Stadium of Light crowd.
