Bashir Humphreys, a defender for Chelsea, is about to agree to a new contract before being loaned out to Stoke City.

Although the 20-year-old is yet to play in the Premier League for Chelsea, he did get his first start of the season in the Blues’ Carabao Cup victory over League Two Wimbledon on Wednesday night.

He played 13 times for the club while on loan at Paderborn in Germany’s second tier during the second part of last season.

The defender played a key role in the FIFA U-20 World Cup this summer and was a member of the England Under-19 team that won the European Championships in 2022.

Swansea is looking to sign Josh Tymon before the deadline expires, but Stoke, who crushed Rotherham 6-1 in their Carabao Cup victory midweek, are eager to improve their defensive options.

Stoke City to re-enter full-back market as Josh Tymon closes in on Swansea transfer

Transfer news from the bet365 Stadium as Stoke City navigate a deadline day with a lot of spinning plates

Josh Tymon is anticipated to finalize a transfer from Stoke City to Swansea on the final day of the summer transfer window, which would force Stoke to return to the full-back market in the closing moments of the window.

Tymon, now 24 years old, came to Stoke from Hull when he was 17 years old. Mark Hughes, who had just missed out on signing Tymon’s Hull teammate Andy Robertson as well, threw Tymon into the Premier League’s deep end.

But Alex Neil has switched to a back four, and Tymon’s future is uncertain now that Enda Stevens has become a free agent this summer. Swansea manager Michael Duff, who has been using wingbacks, announced his interest in the middle of last week. To earn Stoke’s approval, he had to significantly raise the bids that were already on the table. It didn’t appear like an agreement would be possible by yesterday afternoon.
