Derby County have agreed a deal to sign Sunderland midfielder on season-long loan

According to sources speaking to Football Insider, Derby County and Elliot Embleton of Sunderland have agreed to a season-long loan agreement.

It is said that the 24-year-old is currently making his way to the Midlands for a medical checkup and to sign a contract.
Embleton is about to become Derby’s second loan acquisition of the year, following the Rams’ acquisition of Tyreece John-Jules, an Arsenal youngster.

Derby has had a successful 2023–24 season thus far, winning three of their first five league games.

For the first few weeks of the League One season, Rams boss Paul Warne has stayed with a midfield trio consisting of Liam Thompson, Conor Hourihane, and Korey Smith.
Embleton is yet to play for Sunderland this year after suffering an ankle injury to start the year.

He made a comeback last weekend, joining the Black Cats’ bench for their 0-0 draw with Coventry City, but he was not utilized as a replacement.

Last season, Embleton played 24 times for Sunderland in all competitions, scoring twice and providing two assists.

Due to the club’s injury issue, he was primarily used as a central midfielder but also saw time as a striker at times.

Embleton has spent his entire career at the Stadium of Light after breaking through to the first team from Sunderland’s academy in 2017.Sunderland's Dan Neil explains Premier League ambitions and why he's signed a new contract despite interest
