Newcastle United has been approached about a deadline day loan deal following a transfer reversal.
Newcastle United has just over 24 hours to get rid of the unwanted pair.
Sheffield Wednesday have made a season-long loan offer to Newcastle United for both Jeff Hendrick and Isaac Hayden.
After being kept out of Eddie Howe’s first-team plans since last summer, the Magpies are looking to unload the midfield pair before Friday’s 11pm transfer deadline.
Since returning in July, both players have trained away from Howe’s squad. Hayden was close to joining Luton Town earlier this week after travelling south to undergo a medical. A deal, however, collapsed.
“We try to sign good players,” Owls manager Xisco Muoz remarked at a press conference today. “I believe we should try to sign Premier League players because they offer us something different.” We still have a shot. It is critical that we complete the work.
“The club is working extremely hard on it. We strive to close the squad by solving our problems.”
Newcastle would want to sell the pair permanently, but a loan is the only option. Hendrick and Hayden’s estimated £50,000-a-week wages have priced clubs out of a move, and a move to Hillsborough would almost certainly require United to subsidize some of their compensation.
