In recent years, Liverpool have long had their summer business boxed off before the Premier League season starts.

But the build-up to the 2023-24 campaign has been a little different.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai arrived to bolster the midfield and the early indications suggest the Reds have spent the best part of £100 million well on the pair. However, the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho tossed Jurgen Klopp’s plans into chaos.

Wataru Endo arrived to fill the void left at the base of the midfield by those sales, although there is still a sense from supporters that the hub of the team is a little understocked.

Liverpool continue to be linked with a number of high-profile defensive midfielders as a result, while centre-back remains an area that fans would like to see improved. Klopp himself has also hinted that the club are in the market for a new defender.
