The Celtics were going to have plenty of international representation at the FIBA World Cup later this month but new free agent signing Oshae Brissett is no longer on that list. Team Canada announced Monday that Brissett has been ruled out of World Cup action for his home country as a precaution due to a knee injury.

The 25-year-old Brissett signed a two-year contract for the veteran’s minimum last month with Boston after spending three years with the Pacers. He’s expected to compete for minutes off the bench at power forward in place of the departed Grant Williams, who was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks in a sign-and-trade.

Brissett would have had a chance to play big minutes for Canada in the frontcourt. Instead, he gets a chance to heal up before Celtics training camp kicks off later this month.

The lone Celtics player left that will take part in the World Cup is new trade addition Kristaps Porzingis, who will suit up for Lativa when the competition kicks off on August 25th. Payton Pritchard also spent time with the USA Select team last week during the USA training camp in Las Vegas.
