He reported on 23 August that the 26-year-old was a key target of compatriot Daniel Farke, with Leeds offering the midfielder a four-year deal at Elland Road.
It looks as though the signing of Amiri is on the verge of being confirmed following the latest update from Romano on Friday morning, with Farke likely to have been instrumental in the deal.
It had looked as though the midfielder was set to slip through Leeds’ hands on Thursday (24 August) as a move to Marseille was on the cards, but the Ligue 1 couldn’t agree a fee with Leverkusen for him.
That has led to the German going back to the negotiating table with the Whites and it looks as though they have persuaded him to make the move to West Yorkshire.
German sports magazine Kicker reported on its website on 23 August that the Bundesliga side’s asking price was about £5.1million, which could potentially be a bargain.
He has played more than 200 games in the German top flight, including making 25 league appearances for Bayer last season as well as featuring heavily in the Champions League and the Europa League.
The midfielder should add plenty of quality in the middle of the park – an area where the Whites have been a little bit short on competition at the start of the season.
