BREAKING NEWS: Cardiff has just brought in a £50m liverpool unstopable player

£2.9m West Brom transfer signing told he can leave Championship rival

The 31-year-old departed West Brom last summer – but has now been made available for transfer by his current club.

Romaine Sawyers has been told he is free to leave Cardiff City, having left West Brom just over a year-ago.

Sawyers only left The Hawthorns last season and joined the Bluebirds on a two-year deal but is now set to moved on following a change in management.

The 31-year-old joined last summer when Steve Morrison was in charge, but since then he has played under him, Mark Hudson, Erol Bulut and now Turkish manager Erol Bulut.

He has been unable to force his way into the new managers plans, making just one Carabao Cup appearance this term.

Sawyers was not included in their 20-man squads for their opening three Championship fixtures and now plans are underway for him to leave South Wales ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Cardiff’s manager Bulut said to WalesOnline: “I had a conversation with him and I was clear with him and I will not hide it here, he was in the national team, came back and had one game.

“We now have many players in midfield so I told him for his good he should go try to find a club.

“If he does not get minutes here at the age of 31 it would be best if he takes a look at another club to leave, to play at least another four or five years as he is planning to play to at least 35/36.

“He has spoken to his agent I think he is trying. He will find something because he is a good player, he is a very good player.”

The 39-capped Saint Kitts and Nevis international has made 40 appearances for Cardiff and scored three goals. He was in international action in July and as a result returned back to pre-season late which has seen him fall down the pecking order.

As for Sawyer’s time at West Brom, he spent three-years as a player in the Midlands, having joined for a reported £2.9m back in the summer of 2019.Cardiff City can survive in Premier League, says Mark Hudson - BBC Sport

He made 64 appearances in total with one goal and one assist, and spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Stoke. His other clubs in his career include Port Vale, Shrewsbury Town, Walsall and Brentford.
